Frequently
Asked Questions

From materials and fit to shipping, returns, and everyday wear, here are the answers to the questions we hear most often.

01

Products & Materials

What are Varenel earrings made from?

The metal components of our current jewelry collection are made from solid 14K yellow gold, not gold plating over a base metal.

This includes the decorative end, post, flat back, and threaded components. Some styles also feature cubic zirconia or lab-grown diamonds, as specified on the individual product page.

Is your 14K yellow gold nickel-free?

Yes. The solid 14K yellow gold used in our current collection is nickel-free.

Individual sensitivities can vary, so if you have a known metal sensitivity or specific medical concern, we recommend consulting an appropriate professional before wear.

Is the jewelry gold plated?

No. Our current metal components are made from solid 14K yellow gold. There is no layer of gold plating over a base metal.

You can learn more in our 14K Solid Gold Guide.

What stones do you use?

Depending on the style, our jewelry may feature cubic zirconia or lab-grown diamonds. The stone type is listed on each product page.

Our stones are selected for clarity, brightness, and light return, and are set by hand during finishing.

Are your earrings sold as a pair?

No. Varenel earrings are sold individually, one piece per product unless explicitly stated otherwise.

This makes it easier to build an ear stack one placement at a time and choose different styles or sizes for each piercing.

What does internally threaded mean?

With internally threaded jewelry, the threaded section stays inside the post rather than passing exposed threading through the piercing.

This creates a clean exterior post and a secure connection designed around everyday flat-back wear.

02

Fit & Everyday Wear

What post lengths and gauges are available?

Our current flat-back earrings are offered in four fixed post-length and gauge combinations:

  • 5 mm — 1.0 mm, approximately 18G
  • 6 mm — 1.2 mm, approximately 16G
  • 6.5 mm — 1.0 mm, approximately 18G
  • 8 mm — 1.2 mm, approximately 16G

Because fit varies by anatomy, piercing placement, angle, and personal preference, there is no single length that is right for everyone.

How is post length measured?

Post length refers to the wearable length between the back of the decorative end and the inner surface of the flat back.

The decorative top and the thickness of the flat back are not included in this measurement.

How do I choose the right post length?

The most useful starting point is to measure jewelry that already fits you comfortably, rather than trying to measure your ear directly.

A good everyday fit should generally sit close without visibly compressing the tissue.

See our Piercing & Fit Guide for measuring instructions and fit guidance.

Can you tell me exactly which size I need?

We can explain our measurements, gauge options, construction, and how one size compares with another, but we cannot determine an exact fit remotely.

Anatomy and piercing placement vary considerably. If you are unsure about fit, gauge, placement, or installation, a professional piercer is the best person to confirm the appropriate jewelry for your piercing.

Can I sleep in flat-back earrings?

Flat backs have a lower-profile, smoother backing than traditional butterfly backs and are designed around everyday wear.

For fully healed piercings, many people choose to keep flat-back jewelry in during normal daily routines, including sleep. Comfort still depends on fit, placement, and individual anatomy.

Avoid unnecessary pressure on a new or healing piercing and follow the guidance of your professional piercer.

Can I wear my earrings in the shower, pool, or ocean?

For a fully healed piercing, solid 14K gold jewelry can generally remain on during ordinary daily activities such as showering, sleeping, exercising, and swimming.

After exposure to chlorine, salt water, sweat, or personal-care products, rinse the jewelry with clean water and dry it gently.

For a new or healing piercing, avoid swimming and prolonged submersion and follow your professional piercer's aftercare guidance.

Can I use Varenel jewelry in a new or healing piercing?

Jewelry for a new or healing piercing needs the correct material, gauge, post length, fit, and placement for the individual piercing.

We recommend having a professional piercer confirm suitability and install jewelry for a new or healing piercing.

03

Shipping & Delivery

Do you offer free shipping?

Yes. Varenel offers free worldwide delivery to destinations currently available at checkout.

If your country or region can be selected during checkout, we currently ship there.

How long will my order take to arrive?

Orders are typically processed within 3–5 business days before shipment.

Estimated delivery times after dispatch are:

  • United States: 6–12 business days
  • Canada: 7–8 business days
  • United Kingdom & Europe: 6–10 business days
  • Australia & New Zealand: 7–12 business days
  • Other destinations: 5–15 business days

Delivery times are estimates and can vary because of carrier, customs, weather, or local delivery conditions.

Will I receive tracking information?

Yes. Once your order has shipped, tracking information will be sent to the email address associated with your order.

Will I have to pay duties or taxes on delivery?

Applicable taxes and duties are handled or calculated as part of the checkout process where required.

In general, you should not be asked to pay an additional import charge at delivery for amounts already collected through checkout.

What if my tracking says delivered but I cannot find my order?

First confirm the delivery address and check around the property, with household members or neighbors, and with the local carrier.

If the parcel still cannot be located, contact service@varenel.com and we will review the available delivery information with you.

Where can I find the full shipping policy?

See our Shipping & Delivery page for processing times, regional estimates, tracking, address issues, damaged parcels, and lost shipments.

04

Returns & Orders

What is your return policy?

Eligible items may be returned within 30 days after delivery of the last item in your order.

For a standard preference return, jewelry must be:

  • Unused and unworn
  • In its original condition
  • Returned with the original packaging and included materials

For hygiene reasons, jewelry that has been inserted into a piercing, even briefly, is considered worn and is not eligible for a standard preference return.

For change-of-mind, fit, or style preference returns, the customer is responsible for return shipping.

See our Returns & Exchanges page for full details. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.

Can I try the earring on before deciding whether to return it?

Please check the style, post length, gauge, and appearance before inserting the jewelry into a piercing.

For hygiene reasons, insertion into a piercing, even briefly, is treated as wear and makes the item ineligible for a standard preference return.

This does not remove rights relating to a legitimate manufacturing defect or any mandatory rights provided by applicable law.

How do I request a return?

Eligible customers can submit a return request through their Varenel customer account where the self-serve option is available.

You can also contact service@varenel.com with your order number and the reason for your request.

Please wait for return instructions before sending anything back.

Can I cancel or change my order?

If your order has not yet been fulfilled, contact service@varenel.com as soon as possible. We will make reasonable efforts to help, but changes or cancellations are not guaranteed.

Where a cancellation option is available for your order under the applicable market rules, it will appear in your customer account.

Any mandatory cancellation or withdrawal rights provided by applicable consumer law remain unaffected.

Do you offer exchanges?

After an order has been fulfilled or shipped, we do not offer direct preference exchanges.

If your item is eligible for return, you can return it under our return policy and place a new order for the item you prefer.

Wrong or defective items are handled separately and may be replaced where appropriate.

Who pays for return shipping?

For preference returns such as a change of mind, fit preference, or style preference, the customer arranges and pays for tracked return shipping.

If Varenel verifies that you received the wrong item or that the product has an eligible manufacturing or quality issue, Varenel will cover the applicable authorized standard return-shipping cost.

When will I receive my refund?

For standard commercial returns, approved refunds are generally issued within 3–5 business days after the returned item has been received and inspected.

Your bank, card issuer, or payment provider may require additional time for the refund to appear.

Different statutory timelines may apply where required by law.

05

Care & Warranty

How should I clean my Varenel jewelry?

For routine cleaning, use lukewarm water, a small amount of mild soap, and a clean lint-free cloth or very soft-bristle brush.

Rinse thoroughly and dry gently before wearing or storing the jewelry.

Avoid abrasive cleaners, toothpaste, baking soda, bleach, chlorine-based cleaners, acetone, metal polish, rubbing alcohol, and hydrogen peroxide.

See our Jewelry Care Guide for full care instructions.

How often should I check the threaded end?

Periodically check that the threaded connection still feels secure, especially after handling or cleaning the jewelry.

Always use clean, dry hands. Align the threads carefully and tighten only until snug. Do not overtighten.

If the thread does not engage smoothly, stop rather than forcing it.

Will solid 14K gold scratch?

Yes. Solid gold is durable enough for everyday jewelry, but it is not scratch-proof.

Fine surface marks and changes in polish can develop naturally with regular wear. These are normal characteristics of a polished precious-metal surface rather than evidence that the gold is wearing away.

What does the 2-Year Warranty cover?

Varenel provides a 2-Year Warranty covering eligible manufacturing defects in jewelry purchased directly through official Varenel channels.

Depending on the issue, an eligible claim may be resolved through repair, replacement, an appropriate alternative, or a refund where no suitable solution is available.

Normal wear, accidental damage, misuse, improper handling, unauthorized repair, and loss are not manufacturing defects.

See our Warranty page for full coverage and claim terms.

What if a stone comes loose or the threading stops working?

If you believe a stone loss, threading issue, component failure, or structural problem may be related to manufacturing, stop wearing the piece and contact service@varenel.com.

Please include your order number and a description of the problem. We may request photographs or a physical inspection before confirming warranty eligibility.
